DESCRIPTION:This talk will explore Russia's GRU Information Operations Comm
and through regionalization\, looking at how monolithic groups such as Fan
cy Bear and Sandworm can be broken into subclusters. Leveraging open sourc
 e information\, we map out the GRU's cyber-enabled military units\, attrib
uted threat groups and capabilities to connect them to specific regions wi
thin Russia's Military Districts. The talk will draw on technical informat
ion\, but humans\, structure and geography have equal weight\, as we explo
re the intersection of all these topics within the GRU.\n\nThe intent is t
o offer the audience the opportunity to reimagine how they consider the GR
U's cyber-enabled capabilities and what that means for both attribution an
d their organizations. Understanding the ways organizational structure gui
des activity enables us as defenders to better mitigate the threat attacke
rs pose. Attendees will leave with the knowledge that breaks through the h
yperbole and approach Russian intrusions with new eyes.
